body
When “Lost” boss Damon Lindelof said they were getting masochistic with the writing on this show, he wasn’t kidding.
The body count ticked up another notch in yet another terrific episode.
Just as we suspected, Charlotte was a goner—but not before revealing some very intriguing bits of information. SPOILER ALERT, PEOPLE.
Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte
“I remember when I was little: There was this crazy man. He told me I had to leave the island and never ever come back. If I did, I would die.”
“Daniel, I think that man was YOU.”
~We’ve seen Faraday on the island in the ‘70s (in the mine with Dr. Candle), so he could have warned a wee Charlotte back in the day. Or…maybe, as some suspect, he’s the daddy she left behind when her mom took her off the island and told her she made it up? For now, I’m sticking with the notion that Charlotte is Ben and Annie’s daughter to fit my Char-Miles-Daniel-Are-Island-Babies theory.
~Charlotte moves in and out of time in her consciousness, just like Faraday’s fried assistant/possible Boone nanny Theresa did.

Here’s what Red said: ~"Why can’t daddy come with us?" (Who’s your daddy, Charlotte?!)
~"You know what my mom would say about you marrying an American."
~"I know more about ancient Carthage than Hannibal himself.
"
*No, not Lector. Hannibal was a “Carthaginian military commander and tactician who was one of the most talented commanders in history” and was known as the “father of strategy.” There’s a story of Hannibal as a boy, when his father took him to a sacrificial chamber and made him swear he’d never be a friend of Rome. (This probably means nothing.) But it's interesting because Locke is making a sacrifice to save the island—and everyone on it—and because we know the island has some serious military history to it.
"This Place Is Death" Before Charlotte kicks it, she warns Jin in a prophetic way that he should under no circumstances allow Sun or baby Ji Yeon to ever return to the island, because "This place is death!" Well, duh.
Temple of Doom?
The Smoke Monster is back! And he’s hungry! Poor Nadeen. (Though Montaund sort of deserved it…what a jerk!) Then a Frenchie corrects us: “It’s not a monster. It’s a security system guarding THAT TEMPLE.”
What temple?! I’m thinking this has something to do with that four-toed statue?
Break a Leg!
Locke hurt his leg again—and nasty—after falling down a well during a flash. He was also shot in the leg, a while back he was limping, a few seasons ago he started to lose his ability to walk for a spell, and we all know about the wheelchair. What’s with the legs?
The Nosebleed Section Is Growing
Charlotte, Miles and Juliet had been experiencing nosebleeds…and now Sawyer is too—noooooooo!
Is He REALLY One of the Good Guys???
After Jack tried to man-up and threaten Ben (too little, too late, Jack!), Ben slammed on the brakes and very convincingly said: “What I’m doing is helping you! If you had any idea what I’ve had to do to keep you and your friends SAFE, you’d never stop thanking me!!”
“I suppose that’s why they call it sacrifice”
So says Christian to Locke, reiterating Richard Alpert’s revelation that John Locke must die!
“I’m here to help you the rest of the way”
So says a lantern-carrying Christian to Locke. Is the fact that they were both in a coffin a coincidence? Jack was bringing his dad’s coffin home; after the crash it was empty and Christian was looking alive-ish and roaming the island. Now Locke’s dead, in a coffin and is being brought back to the island. Please tell me Christian’s not helping him “into the light” or something. (They SWORE this wasn’t purgatory!)
And apparently, the name on Ben’s van is an anagram for…”Reincarnation.”
So we’ve had themes of reincarnation, fertility issues, daddy issues, kids with single parents/no parents, not to mention the Hanso Foundation’s purpose is to “preserve life and promote well-being.” Just saying…
Best Moments
~Sawyer and Jin hugging!! That may have been the best reunion on the island ever.
~Desmond coming out from the shadows at the church. Was this the first actual meeting of Desmond and Ben?
~Young, clean, pretty, pregnant Rousseau shooting her baby daddy Robert after he turned on her, allegedly from “The Sickness.”
~Charlotte speaking in tongues.
Best Quotes
“He’s Korean. I’m from Encino,” Miles, when asked to translate Jin
“Expecting a subway?” Sawyer to Locke before he falls down the well
“Say hello to my son.”—Christian Shepherd to Locke after he turned the magic wheel
“Turn it up, I love Geronimo Jackson.”—Charlotte (GJ music was playing in the ‘70s Hatch)
“I’m not allowed to have chocolate before dinner.”—Charlotte’s final words
Burning Questions
~Is Christian Shepherd actually Jacob? Or is he Jacob’s right-hand man?
~“Let’s Get Started.” What the heck did Mrs. Hawking mean by that? She’s lighting an awful lot of candles in that church. Is she some kind of voodoo priestess leading a sacrificial ritual that will ship them all back to the island???
~Ben said whoever turns the wheel can not go back to the island. So why is Ben even involved in collecting the Oceanic 6 to go back? And now that Locke set the wheel back on its axis…can he never go back too? Or does it not matter because he’s already in a coffin?
~Was the wreckage Jin found (the music box, the violin) from Flight 815? Maybe the Tailies camp? From the Frenchies’ ship? Or from the Ajira Airways jet? Rousseau was young, yet there was the smoke stack the Losties saw after the crash, so it’s hard to tell what time it is.
~Why does Charlotte know how to speak Korean? Just because she’s a smarty-pants anthropologist? Or did she spend some time with Dr. Marvin Candle back when SHE WAS GROWING UP ON THE ISLAND?
Click here to comment: Okay…Ben: Good or Bad? Christian: Good or Bad? Is it weird that Sun was so quick to ditch her baby Ji Yeon and head back to the island? Will you miss Charlotte? Think it's the last we've seen of her?
