Richter and ConanWhen Conan O'Brien debuts his new version of "The Tonight Show" on NBC on June 1, he'll have a familiar face with him.

Andy Richter, O'Brien's former sidekick on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," will be joining the new "Tonight Show" as its announcer, the network announced in a press release Tuesday. It will be the first time O'Brien and Richter will be working together on a daily in almost nine years. In addition to his announcing duties, Richter will participate in comedic pieces, NBC announced.

Richter served as O'Brien's partner in late-night shenanigans for seven years before leaving the show to focus on acting. He went on to star in a few short-lived sitcoms, including "Andy Richter Controls the Universe," "Quintuplets" and "Andy Barker, P.I."

"Andy is one of the funniest people I know and we've maintained a close friendship since he left "Late Night," O'Brien said in the news release. "We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to "The Tonight Show." I'm looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me $300."

body I'm sure Andy Richter will be a great asset to the Conan O'Brien Show as I remember I used to enjoy them together. I, however, will not be watching after Leno moves to an earlier time slot. Anyway, Craig Ferguson is way funnier than Conan and Leno put together!

body It looks like NBC wants to lower its ratings even further. Trading Jay Leno for Conan O'Brien is a very bad idea. Conan's humor is inane at best and boring at its worst. Oh well...maybe this is the way NBC wants to end it all....

body Andy carried Conan.....Conan is boring! Sorry, I will not be watching the "Reunion" and I don't like the "Powers That Be" doing away with the good stuff that is on at 10:00PM now, so I won't be watching NBC at 10:00 PM when they make the big switch !!!

body I have been watching the Tonight Show for about 25 years...Since I am almost 30. There is no way that Conan O'Brien will be able to do what Jay Leno or Johnny Carson were able to do. NBC has taken one of the greatest and most successful shows on television and basicly throwing it all away. There is no way that they will get the viewers they are used to seeing unless Conan drasticaly changes his comedy

body This is the best news I've heard in a long time! (Sad, isn't it?) I hardly watched Conan ever since Andy left. I can't wait to start watching again! I do wish someone would bring back "Andy Richter Contols the Universe" though. It was like "The Office" of it's time! Woohoo!!!
