Penny MarshallWhether you know her as Laverne DeFazio of “Laverne & Shirley” or as the gifted director of box-office hits like “Big” and “A League of Their Own,” Penny Marshall has been a part of our lives since the ’70s.

But now comes the shocking news that Marshall is reportedly battling for her life after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, according to the National Enquirer. It was also discovered that the 66-year-old had a tumor on her liver.

She began to feel ill after flying from Los Angeles to New York to watch the Yankees in the Major League Baseball playoffs.

"After the flight, Penny felt so sick that she needed to see a doctor," a source close to Marshall’s family told the tabloid. "She was vomiting and thought it might be the flu.”

The unnamed source goes on to tell of the unfortunate news Marshall received after seeking the expert opinion of doctor.

"She got the shock of her life when the doctors told her she had a tumor on both her brain and her liver,” the source added.

It is believed that Penny secretly underwent brain surgery at a New York hospital on Oct. 30.

Here’s hoping the Enquirer is wrong this time, but, in case it isn’t, our thoughts are with Penny and her family.

body I hope that for Penny, the news is NOT true, but if it is, we'll all pray and wish for the best. It's so scary, because it seems that a lot of people are contracting brain cancer this year.

body I read this today and pray that not a bit of it is true. I do know though that sometimes even when the sleaziest of tabloids begin spreading something, that sometimes it does have at least SOME amount of validity. I have always loved Penny, and "Laverne & Shirley" has, and always will be a favorite. God bless you always Penny.

body I don't put much stock into anything National Enquirer says. She says she doesn't have it and she ought to know.
