Tom Cruise's New Feud

Tom Cruise’s short-fused defense of Scientology has made its way back into the headlines, as the “Mission Impossible” star has attacked “Celebrity Rehab” host Dr. Drew Pinsky for comments he made about Cruise’s relationship to the controversial religion.

“A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt,” says Dr. Drew in a Playboy magazine interview on newsstands next month. “Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that’s a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood--maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect.”

Given Cruise’s erratic, baffling, and sometimes indefensible public behavior, many may not find Dr. Drew’s observations as anything short of obvious, especially in light of Cruise’s own admission of his abusive father. Cruise, however, doesn’t see it that way.

Page 6 is reporting today that Cruise's lawyer, Bert Fields, has angrily responded to Pinsky and takes a public statement one step further by comparing the respected doctor to one of the most famous Nazis. “This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them. He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels.”

Maybe Cruise’s involvement in the film “Valkyrie,” in which he plays a Nazi officer, has put the German Axis at the front of his mind, but it’s clear that Cruise has yet to understand that in instances regarding his faith, sometimes it’s better to just walk away with no comment.

body The last time I checked, freedom of religion and speech were still American rights. People like Kirstie Alley, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, these are all intelligent people, able to make their own, adult choices. People who waste their time ridiculing others, obviously have no life of their own, or fail to see life objectively. If what people do is not affecting you, your loved ones, your environment, others or the world, in any negative way, then really, what right have you to criticize or judge? I've known so many people who think they are enlightened, yet they fail to see the one very important and telling sign of personal awakening...the lack of acceptance of others. Be still and silent. Watch the world around you. Rise above all things petty, like gossiping and spewing unnecessary hatred. Just know that the fact that we were permitted to be here in the first place, through all the good and bad, is a miracle. Whether your religion is Judaism, Scientology, Christianity or even Satanism, live and let live. We're only here a short time. Don't spend it negatively

body Right on Bert Fields! I am sick of people like Dr. Drew, evaluating for others without having talked to them. You ever wonder why celebrities continue to have to go to rehab, I am a firm believer that it is because of incompetent "Dr.'s" like Dr. Drew. Drew Pinsky should do us all a favor... He should quit his day job and go evaluate himself.
We live in a country that gives us the right to religious freedom. Lets respect it!

( people magazine etc...) Will we be that surprised? No. Then his wife will come out and say he hated " scientology" all along. blah blah blah.... But it makes for good check-out reading.
Movie stars are just people with very high regard for themselves.And usually not very bright. However the media asked them there thoughts on all things and we are subjected to there rants and sometimes insults. Tom is used to having his tail kissed so he is in another World. He has no idea that he is clueless about his scientology... which is a cult in its own right. (aliens..Please)
I hope he finds the true meaning of life and finds true happiness in Jesus. But I am sure this will not happen because he makes the church of Scientology too much money.
Ok so after all of these statements, I really like most of Tom Cruises movies and am sure he is a nice person. Tomjust keep your mouth shut so when I am watching your movies I am not thinking of your scientology crap.
This is what most Americans would love for you to do.

Scientists studying rats in a cage, injecting them with this poison and that, can observe, render analysis and offer conclusions, but they can never know what it means or feels like to be the rat. Your observations of those abused and neglected, are completely in error and one-sided. You are merely an observer. Does that really make your analysis of Tom Cruise completely objective? I think not. I think most "professional psychologists and psychiatrists," are nothing more than observers. You are not as enlightened as you would like to believe, doctor.

The wonderful thing about America is that you can believe what you want to believe and live your life how you want to live your life as long as you are not breaking any laws. As far as I am aware of, Cruise isn't hurting anyone and he isn't breaking any laws. Let's just LAY OFF this guy already. It appears to me that people are consistantly taking pot shots at him and his family and I really do not see a need or a reason for this. Let him believe what he wants to believe, leave him alone - it's his life to live and he's not hurting YOU.

He is dedciated to the well being of his patients and just because he is a public doctor who happnes to have his own tv show and VERY succesfull radio show (which I'm sure none of you have heard even though he is doing his best do educate America on the dangerous of Sex, and answering questions for free every night so that people can live happier healther lives) I'm not agree that Sciencetology is a religion full of whack jobs, however Tom Cruise has been in the starlight for a long time and I think that's bound to drive anyway a little sideways. Dr. Drew was making an observation, if he had said "kittens are fluffly" would they call him a Nazi? No, the intense backlash is simply to hid the fact that Dr. Drew could be right.

Hitler contended that every Jew was to be killed because they were impure and did not believe his way. Christianity contends that if you are not a Christian, in the "cult" of Jesus believers, you will be killed. I fail to see the difference. You preach about Tom Cruise and how you don't want to hear about his Scientology, but then you shove Jesus in our faces. Shhh... just live and let live. And don't forget, regardless of your beliefs, every religion has one basic principle, love. Let's not forget that.
