"Transformers" director Michael Bay couldn't resist getting in a bit of a dig at his upcoming summer competition. In a recent blog post, Bay makes a thinly veiled reference to "Terminator Salvation's" giant, robotic Harvesters unveiled in the film's most recent trailer, as compared to his giant robots.
Bay posted: "Okay it's time to turn up the heat on "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." We've waited low in the weeds letting all the summer movies get their stuff out" wrote Bay. " We've seen the great year end movies, and watched the upcoming clips of the upcoming summer fare. We've seen certain movies coming out even trying to duplicate "Transformer" size robots in their ads. Please, come on."
How does the newest "Terminator" director feel about Bay's none-too-subtle jab?
We caught up with McG today at a special screening of early “Terminator Salvation” footage and asked him what he thought of the comparison. He had a few choice words for Bay.
“It bothers me to tell you the truth. Ultimately, our large robots have nothing to do with the "Transformers" robots," MCG replied. "I say with respect, giant robots have been the theme of film for a real long time . So we want to do everything we can to create separation," he continued. "Our film's about T-800s and the Marcus character and the Connor character, and this, that, and the other. So, to have people have a problem with that wouldn't be working for us so we want to make sure there's separation."
Although McG kept his composure, it was clear that the subject got him riled up. Could this be the beginning of a McG vs. Bay smackdown? Does this mean a "T vs. T" movie in 2010? If T-800s and Transformers went to war who would win? Is this just a case of a few Hollywood boys fighting over their extremely explosive toys? Stay tuned for more on the "Terminator Salvation" preview and all the skull crushing machines that came with it.
