Jason Kidd is feeling generous. So he's giving away the gold medal he won as part of the "Redeem Team" in the Beijing Games.

No, he's not giving it away to charity, his kids, or a distraught and goldless Allen Iverson. Kidd is doing one better. He's giving his medal to a casino.

Kidd is handing his gold medal over to Elaine Wynn, wife of casino magnate, Steve Wynn.

Why? Good question.

"No, it's not a marker or anything like that," Kidd told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "She's (Elaine) just a great friend and a really great person.

"Last summer, we stayed at the Wynn for (what seemed like) a lifetime, close to three weeks. We met at a banquet, we got to talking, and she really understands the game.

"I told her I'd make a deal with her, that if we won the gold medal, I'd give it to her. She thought I was kidding. But I told her I had one already, and the way they treated us at the Wynn, it was the least I could do."

I believe you, Jason. Of course it isn't a marker. This sounds like a great "deal" from your perspective. By the way, anytime you want to make a "deal" with me for your 2008-09 salary, I'm down.

As for this gold medal, look at the bright side, at least Joumana won't get it.

What do you think of Kidd's "generosity"? Am I being overly cynical? Add your own comment here.

body It sounds totally fishy to me. Why in the world would you give your gold medal to someone you've only known a few weeks? Because they were hospitable? Hmmm......

body I get he was "true" to his word. But if he was going to give the medal away, he should have given it to Coach K. I'm sure people will agree, Coach K is MUCH MORE deserving of the gold medal.
If he wanted to say "thank you" to the Wynn's, then send some expensive flowers.

body I do not understand this crap at all. Put it in a safe deposit box for your children. Better than that, keep it himself. However, it belongs to him and he can do what ever he chooses. I would have kept it in hmy posession.

When the players spoke of winning gold, you would think it meant more to him than what is being displayed.

Maybe it was all just hype!!

body WOW! The "Redeem Team" had so much to prove by bringing the gold back to the US. Now it's just that simple to give, what you've worked so hard for,...up that quick??? I agree with LittleOne27...he should have at least given it to Coach K!!! Send Mrs. Wynn "$40 miollion dollars" in flowers if the stay was THAT great!

body Hello!...... of course a casino owner or owners wife or anyone on staff is going to be hospitable to you. Especially if you are a millionare. I would be hospitable to someone to if I knew they were going to gamble away "give" me money they don't care about.

This sounds too suspect to me. Just like Marion Jones denied doping, it all comes out later. Why not donate it to charity instead of give it to a "new found friend". Let's ask Charles Barkley... he probably knows what's up. LOL I guess he didn't deserve to go to the Olympics if he doesn't appreciate his gold medal and what it means.

body This is what happens when you put a pro where an amature should be. Someone who would appreciate the opportunity to experience the Olympics as they should be experienced...not by someone who could care less about the event and the GOLD MEDAL!
