Ladies,

No longer reserved for the office, the blazer is busting out into casual and evening territory. When worn correctly, this closet staple can help out a pair of jeans or give your semi-stuffy formal dress some much-needed edge. Read on to find out how to put your blazer to work for you in more ways than one.

Casual

A boyfriend blazer is ideal for a casual weekend ensemble, as long as the style remains roomy.  The key is to keep the volume in the jacket and not on your lower half, so pair with a feminine blouse and slim jeans. Choose some fun ballet flats and gold bangles, and carry your essentials in a crisp, white tote that matches everything.

Cocktail
Take a navy, slightly oversized blazer  and throw on over a structured cocktail dress. Make sure the dress is somewhat fitted and falls above the knee - this will work well against the masculinity of the jacket. Strap on some gladiator heels to add height, and opt for a clutch in a complementary color. Finally, choose subtle but not boring jewelry, like a pair of dangling earrings in silver.

Formal

If you're dressing up anytime soon, start with a bold dress and tone it town with that black blazer you would normally wear to work. Roll up the cuffs and even pop the collar, as long as that collar will stay up (otherwise half of it will flop down, and you'll look silly). Add a vintage-looking brooch to the lapel for your dash of sparkle, and maybe a colorful clutch, too. A high, strappy pair of black heels will complete the look without competing with the color palette.
