Rewind logoConstantine Maroulis, the sixth-place finisher from "American Idol's" fourth season, joined me today for my weekly check-in with a member of our roster of former "American Idol" finalists who will give their impressions on the season, their favorites, their least favorites. In addition to Constantine, our gang includes Anthony Fedorov, Bo Bice, Diana DeGarmo and Mikalah Gordon. Look at them over there all smiling and singing!

Each week, I'll be catching up with one of them to bring you their unique insight on the competition. You can relive how these "Idol" stars started their journeys on "American Idol Rewind," with all new episodes featuring Season 4 in national syndication every Saturday this winter and spring. Encore episodes will air on the TV Guide Channel. (Click here for local listings)

This week, Constantine updated me on the progress of his new Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages," which is getting tremendous reviews. You can find out more about it at rockofagesmusical.com. Even though the man is performing on Broadway eight times a week, he's still taking time to keep up with "American Idol," watching it in his dressing room. He chimed in this week with his thoughts on Adam Lambert, whether anyone else even has a chance of winning this thing, and what it was like when he was abruptly booted from the show after never having landed in the bottom group.

Victor Balta: So I'll get right to it. I read that there's already a screenplay in the works for "Rock of Ages." Have you had any talks about being in the movie version?
Constantine Maroulis:
They sold the rights to New Line Cinema, actually before we hit Broadway, and there were talks of it before we even hit Broadway. I'm very happy for Chris D'Arienzo, our writer, and, you know, we'll see what happens. Hopefully some of us will be involved. But we all understand how these things work. They take a lot of time to come together and a lot of times they use big stars. We're just worried about tonight's performance and tonight's audience and rocking it out the way we know we can.

VB: Have you read the reviews? Because if you haven't, I can tell you, they're pretty great.
CM:
It's not something that I sneak out before a performance or anything like that. But we had a long press weekend leading into opening night, which was a great party, and everyone was sort of telling me about it. Like, "Dude, it's good." So, of course, I took a peek.

VB: The set list of songs in the show is pretty great. Are there any of your favorite hair metal-type songs that didn't get into the show?
CM:
We don't actually do "Rock of Ages" by Def Leppard in the show, because we actually couldn't get the rights to their song. It comes on right after the show. I think "Welcome to the Jungle" or any of the Guns n Roses stuff from "Appetite (for Destruction)" would've been good. But I think, as it is, the show is so well crafted, that it works so well as it is. I think, come the movie, you'll see even more songs in there.

VB: Have you even had time to watch "Idol"? What'd you think about last week?
CM:
I do. I tape the show and watch it in my dressing room. I think everyone's doing a very good job. We're getting down to it. Now is the time when people really need to stand out. A bunch of them are sort of "Even Steven" now, if you know what I mean. This is where people start building a lot of steam. I do think that Adam is pretty far ahead with the votes, so I think he needs to just to rock it out like he can.

VB: Last time we talked, you were already on the Adam train. What do think of him since?
CM:
I think he's a very gifted performer and he's capable of doing so many great things on stage. So with him, it's always a matter of him reeling in the performance and really connecting with the song like he did with "Tracks of My Tears" and last week with "Mad World." I think people really rally about him when he does things like that. It's really nice when he does a more grounded performance.

VB: Do you think anyone else has a chance at winning?
CM:
At winning? I don't think so. Maybe Danny Gokey -- maybe. He's got the story, he's got a tremendous voice. He's not a great performer yet. But he's got a great heart and that story of his is big. I always thought Allison (Iraheta) was a favorite early, but she's been in the bottom three a couple of times. I wouldn't be surprised, either, if it were Adam and Kris in the final.

VB: In your season, it seemed like Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice kind of ran away with it. Did you see it that way?
CM:
After I left the show -- remember, I had never been in the bottom three, I just kind of free-falled off the show. I think it was all about Carrie and Bo after that. But before I left, people were speculating what combination of the two out of the three of us it would be between. I think I can say that.

VB: That's a good point. You were never in the bottom. What was that like, now that you've had some time to reflect on that moment when you were cut?
CM:
I was just so happy to have gotten that far. I'd never seen the show before, never knew what to think. I was just having such a good time and going with it. You're having so much fun that you just don't want to leave, sure. But you have so much to look forward to. I knew I wasn't going to win. But I thought I might get into the finals.

VB: So, if Adam is such a clear favorite right now, what would you say to the rest of the contestants? What should they do now?
CM:
They just need to concentrate on what kind of artists they're going to be. Now more than ever there are opportunites for other artists that aren't winners to make records, and big records. Start thinking about it now because it all starts in the next couple of weeks when they're eliminated. They've got the big tour coming up and while you're on that tour, you want to be able to do material that you want to put out afterward. People going to be approaching you with everything under the sun and you want to be ready for that.

*** Click here to comment! What do you think of what Constantine had to say? Do you think the judges would've have used the save for him in Season 4? Do you agree that Adam is running away with the competition?

body I was never a Constantine fan and I don't give credence to what he has to say. I think he is too into himself. However I do agree with the last question: What should the contestants do now? Thats the best advise they could get at this point, because they don't have a chance to win this competition

body I am looking forward to tonight because ALL of the participants know they have to "bring it" to stay in the contest. I would like to see Lil and Danny show us "what they got" - like they did in the beginning of it all. And I always look forward to what Adam has for us.
