Dead Zeppelin

Sorry Zep fans, but I have some bad news to share. "Led Zeppelin are over," says Jimmy Page's manager, Peter Mensch, according to a report published at Music Radar. It's a stunning reversal from Mensch's announcement in yesterday's NME that the band was auditioning potential replacements for Robert Plant for a new record and tour . In fact, it sounds like the auditioning process undid the whole thing.

Mensch told Music Radar that:
"They tried out a few singers, but no one worked out," says Mensch. "That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it."
On the one hand, it's a relief that Led Zeppelin chose not to limp through their unbelievable catalogue with a scab singer. Could you imagine Steven Tyler fronting Zep? Or Chris Cornell? Or a total unknown doing his (or her) karaoke best?

On the other hand, can you imagine how entertaining this might've been? I mean, Page's manager got this worked up over NOTHING. He might've spontaneously combusted if this had dragged on!

Disappointed you won't get to see this legendary band perform? Happy they didn't decide to take the Vegas route and reunite just for the money? Share your thoughts in the comments!

body Dig one up from the grave.......give another his old voice (which worked about 1/2 of the time) ........ give another a chance to drain all the drugs out of him so he could play guitar to his potential & then tell the only one left that is worth a crap now that they are ready.... JPJ you really don't need it.

body I cant imagine Led Zep without Robert Plant. Its time to give up the notion. Jimmy Page is still one of the greatest guitarists ever, and wont have trouble finding some project to stay busy with. A reunion was a nice thought, but not based in reality.

body Soooooooo very disappointed from the get go. From not seeing them in concert from 69 to 80 - -to not seeing the O2 arena one off show - - to not being able to ever see them reunite for a couple of shows because Robert has 'moved on.' Too bad...I don't think they would've been a Vegas act......they were too good at the O2 and Jimmy may have new material he was working on. I hope he does Something....his guitar talent is still too awesome to be silent forever more.

body Robert Plant can't sing anymore. Jimmy Page is a shadow of the guitar player he once was. Christ, I barely recognized him w/ that white hair. Nobody could replace Bonzo's drumming, not even his kid. I would have loved to have seen them back in the day, but not now. It would have been sad. And who wants to get raped a couple hundred dollars for a half-**bleep** show? 'Cause that's what it would have cost. At least.

body I was lucky enough to see them during the House of the Holy tour back in the 70's. I can't imagine them touring without Plant. It's over. I wish all these bands who replace key members would fold too...that means you Allman Bros., Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Eagles!

body Look, I saw LZ in the 70's in Chicago a couple of times, and remember the lines and I think my brother invented body surfing across the crowd so we could save his little body from being crushed against the wall of the Stadium. It is over, I am now 53 , Zep is dead and older, THAT TIME CAN NEVER BE RECAPTURED. These guys don't want to be like Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin on some variety show, half singing their old hits. Long live Zeppelin, and RIP to them also. The Song Remains the Same, the people get old.

body First, Having seen Zeppelin live in the 70's I can't imagine seeing them without all the original members. That would be like a Beatles reunion with just Ringo & Paul. What makes bands legendary are all the members doing there part. Second who wants to see old men trying to relive their youths. Have you seen the Stones and what they have become? A bunch of old drug addled wrinkled men, singing out of tune, out of sync, and subpar guitar & drum play. Guys let us remember you as the legends you were.
