So remember that shockingly tasteful Michael Jackson memorial that took place yesterday? You might've noticed that it was a pretty opulent affair, paid for by the taxpayers of Los Angeles. If you've been paying close attention, you might also know that California is facing a serious deficit, so paying for Michael Jackson's funeral service might seem a bit of a stretch.

Maybe you thought some beneficent corporation would step forward to foot the bill, or that the Jackson estate would pony up to cover the expense. You'd be wrong, but it's a nice thought. Instead, the Mayor of Los Angeles is reaching out to Michael Jackson fans the world over, asking them to donate to a PayPal account to help defray the costs of the ceremony.

That's right. You're not dreaming. The Mayor of Los Angeles has taken the same approach to microfinancing the Michael Jackson memorial as any random blogger might try to pay for his or her hosting fees.

What Do You Think?

body The comment that is above this comment was to refer to comment number 1. Now I would like to say I am very light skinned myself and by brothers and sisters are a little bit darker then me. I know that down in slavery black woman was taken by their master. I come to find out that my great great great Grandmother was white.

Now get a life like I said. Research you might just be surprise yourself.

being a father is not JUST looking like your children...i think your comment is rude and disrespectful and definitly not funny,he was a wonderful father to those kids and i would make a donation if i knew that it was going directly to the mj fund(he was very giving and caring)but who knows where the money really goes to.times are tough for everyone right now.

body what about all those entertainers, movie stars, and athletes living in and around LA? they should all put their money where their mouths are and pony up. why should LA foot the bill. how bankrupt must CA become before it no longer exists as a functioning state? what is wrong with you people?

body I TOTALLY agree with hamptonspdwy's comment above. With all the celebrities that attended, they couldn't all pitch in and foot the bill? Kobe Bryant makes more in one year's endorsement fees than the shindig cost. Pony up Hollywood!

body I grew up daydreaming about one day going to Hollywood and becoming an entertainer. I am so grateful I did not! The majority of these people appear to be so self-absorbed they don't realize the common people who buy their records, see their movies, and go to their sporting events are sufferring financially. ABSOLUTELY, THEY SHOULD FORK OVER SOME OF THEIR MONEY! If they honestly appreciate Michael Jackson's talent, they will be the honorable thing and help pay for his memorial.
