People.com and CNN.com are reporting that the Jackson family attempted to stage an intervention with Michael as far back as 2006, according to sources close to the family. The attempt angered Jackson, and, according to CNN, he ordered his security to keep his brothers outside Neverland's gates and refused to take calls from his mother. One source claims that anyone who tried to talk to Jackson about his condition was shut out.

The news comes as further confirmation that Jackson's life was dominated by addiction to prescription pain pills, who was warned repeatedly by his dermatologist that these drugs were more than he could handle and were improperly prescribed by his other physicians.

Drug czar Gil Kerlikowske has said that Jackson's death is a wake up call about America's problem with prescription drug abuse. He went on to say that these drugs, while legal, still pose a threat when used improperly.

What Do You Think?

body Unfortunately you can not help someone if they don't want it. What you can do is not become an enabler though. I believe many people helped enable his addiction and they are, in part, responsible for his untimely death

body Ultimately it was MJ decision to accept and receive the help he probably needed. I believe with all my heart and soul that his family made every attempt to help him. But, when you have an addiction of any kind it is up to the addict to seek and receive help. For the most part the people who truly love you can only offer hpe and prayer. It is forunate when people hit ROCK BOTTOM AND IT LEADS TO RECOVER, but we all know that some peoples ROCK BOTTOM IS DEATH. I pray for the peace of his family that they did all they could to help MJ and that finally he is at peace and rest.

body I ALSO FEEL THAT WHEN A PERSON WHO HAS THE MEANS TO GET WHAT EVER THEY WANT THEY WILL FIND A WAY. I JUST WISH HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN ENOUGH CONTROL OVER HIMSELF TO THINK ABOUT HIS CHILDREN.

body Michael was stubborn and it appears he wouldn't listen to anyone. I sure wish he had. He gave so much and had so much more to give.

body An addict is an addict whether prescription or street. More people die from prescribed drugs than street drugs. They think just because the Dr. gave them to them they are not in same class as a "druggie" WRONG* Every night i go to sleep afraid of receiving a call about someone i love dying, because the doctors give you the drugs when you are a prominent member of the community and upper middle class. Our doctors need training and family members need to get tough with thoes they love, even if it means they may hate you, yet at least they will be alive to HATE you.

body Hydrox you are totally correct however; the Drs he had were totally responsible also. I have prescription drugs but cannot refill them until the refill date. Money will buy anything in this day and age and unfortunately there are a whole lot of "vulchers" waiting for the right "rich" pidgeon. Soooooo very sad !

body Michael's death could perhaps be prevented if he invested his wealth in cryogenics.

body M.J. did make the choice of taking the drugs, but realize that when a person is addicted they can not make wise choices. For that reason a family should get the person help regardless of what the person may feel for them. If they are doing it out of love, no bad will come from it in the end.Except LIFE
