People.com and CNN.com are reporting that the Jackson family attempted to stage an intervention with Michael as far back as 2006, according to sources close to the family. The attempt angered Jackson, and, according to CNN, he ordered his security to keep his brothers outside Neverland's gates and refused to take calls from his mother. One source claims that anyone who tried to talk to Jackson about his condition was shut out.

The news comes as further confirmation that Jackson's life was dominated by addiction to prescription pain pills, who was warned repeatedly by his dermatologist that these drugs were more than he could handle and were improperly prescribed by his other physicians.

Drug czar Gil Kerlikowske has said that Jackson's death is a wake up call about America's problem with prescription drug abuse. He went on to say that these drugs, while legal, still pose a threat when used improperly.

What Do You Think?

body Could MK death be prevented is the question. My comment would be that we could all prevent our untimely deaths by using simple common sense. Eat right, exercise etc etc. What happens to us is generally a result of what we do. His decisions apparently led him to a shorter life than normal. And just an FYI note here, physicians who prescribe meds which have the potential for addiction also have a responsibility to the patient to either keep it up or consult them to another method. So, don't lay all the blame on the doctors. Anyone can go to a doctor and if they complain enough about pain, they will eventually end up with a pain pill or be sent to pain mgmt where the heavy stuff comes in. So, the ultimate decision is actually the users. To me it is sort of like smoking cigs. Don't smoke for 10 years knowing the risk and then blame the cig company when you get cancer.

body Michael Jackson had a very hard and unhappy life. His family was the cause of alot of that. However, it was obvious to ALL the people around him (except his children) that he was suffering addiction to too many prescribed pills. Whereas it was his choice to take the medications, responsible medical people should never have given them to him. And his manager and attorney and his security guards should have all realized the danger he was in and taken control of the situation. If a child was standing at the edge of a cliff ANY adult would have reached out and pulled him back. Whereas Michael Jackson was not a child, none of the adults in his life reached out to him and pulled him back. Now his children are left with no parent and they are the ones who will truly suffer here. He wasn't an entertainer to them- he was their Father. Those family members gathered around them- and those medical officials talking to the media- failed these children. They could have- and should have- done more.
Heath Ledger died the same way- too many medical "experts" prescribing too many medications. We trust our doctors to do what is best for us. In these two cases the doctors did what was best for THEM.

body Obviously, Michael was addicted to prescription drugs like so many unfortunate individuals and pharmacies and doctors need to get connected to keep people from getting multiple prescriptions from multiple doctors. However, it is easy for people to say they tried to help Michael now that he's gone and cannot defend those statements. Everyone seems to be scrambling around to protect themselves against blame. Next they'll all be pointing fingers when that doesn't work. Not that Michael's word could be relied on as he sadly had a lot of emotional issues. Hopefully, he's much happier where he is now, but unfortunately when a life ends, it leaves a whole in the lives of those left behind.

body I understand his situation of being in pain and becoming addicted to medication. I live everyday in pain with sever migraines after my last child was born and they tore my spine with the epidural. I too depend on medication to get through my days without pain. It is depressing, life altering and you live in sadness. I can't play with my kids, jump on the trampoline, play baseball, etc. If you haven't lived the life, you can't judge!!

body You know i can relate to MJ in away, trust me prescription pain pills are so easy to get addicted to,I had a neck fusion 4 years ago and they were giving me all kinds of pain pills, and as time went on i started taking them just for the high, then one day i realized and said to myself,"I can't keep doing this to myself,i'm to young to die" so i just stop taking all of them at once yeah i went through really bad withdrawls but after being on them for 5 years,i figured i would but i did it all on my own,my family wanted nothing to do with me at the time,i guess some people just don't get it,trust me it's a real hard thing to face,it's just a shame that so many people out there are facing this problem.

body He wasn`t a junkie in the beginning.......he liked the feeling and choose to continue.......he wasn`t a pedophile in the beginning.....he liked the feeling and choose to continue. He had the money/power too get what ever he wanted. He/she/it is by no means a god or the greatest entertainer ever...just some black guy (that didn`t want to be black) that could sing and dance. Move on people, there`s another one just around the corner.

body It is written. It was his time to go and I believe GOD is rocking him in His arms now and showering him with the love he so despertately needed. No tears in Heaven. Before we are born ,our time for death has already been decided and even though it is painful for thoes left behind, nothing we could have done would have changed his time of death, but while he was here , people could have made his life better.
