The History of the Do you believe in curses? Brett Favre better watch his back. The 20th anniversary edition of the most popular sports video game in history has been released and Favre is the cover boy for Madden NFL 09.

A curious trend has emerged since 1999 when the game began featuring one of the NFL’s elite players on the cover each season. Dark clouds seem to hover over the unassuming victim in the form of injuries, ineffectiveness, and just plain bad luck.

Comcast.net's Bill Sudell celebrates the release of Madden NFL 09 and The History of the "Madden Curse."

The History of the “Madden Curse”

Do you believe in the "Madden Curse?" Will Brett Favre survive the season? Add your own comment here.

body Have you seen Brett's "farm" in Mississippi? It's a mansion, on God knows how many acres! If he doesn't want to retire there, I will!

body Lay off the Jets. If Farve gets hurt it's because he plays football and football players usually get hurt.

body There are no worries regarding a curse or anything else standing in the way of Favre playing another season (or two?)....he knows his own body, still "has it" where that phenomenal arm is concerned, and will bring invaluable experience and talent to the Jets. As a Packers fan who has the Jets as her hometown faves, I welcome Favre to NEW JERSEY, and am proud to see him remain in Green!!

Well let's ask Nostradamus, "Can the Jets do better with Farve at the controls than they did last year with a 4-12 record?" Nostradamus might have responded, "if the Madden curse doesn't get him first". Farve is older and if the Jets front line doesn't hold off the bads guys, Farve may not survive. If Farve had not played, would he have been in some type of legal issue with Madden Football? Maybe the curse of greed or fear of lawsuit forced him back out onto the field. Nossie, what are you thoughts?

body No, I don't believe in anything but reality. If a player gets injured or is not up to high level performance, only then is there a change in statis, nothing else. The curse was man made. Not mystical.

body Favre has always been my #1 player. I don't believe in the "curse". The only way he'll get hurt is because he won't have the protection from the jets. Remember Favre is great, but its a team sport. It takes more than one person to win a game. Good luck to Brett.

body It won't be Favre who is cursed, it will be the Packers organization. What a disgrace! I am not a Favre or Packers fan, but that is not the way to treat the franchise's greatest player.
