Landing a role on “Grey’s Anatomy” is a pretty sweet gig. Chyler Leigh (‘Reunion’)  has been cast as Meredith’s long-lost half-sister Lexie, in just one of the jolts viewers received in May’s season finale. I recently talked with Chyler and asked her what the reaction’s been like: “Oh, everybody’s really cool. They’ve been so welcoming on set…”

When I clarify I meant fan reaction, her tone shifts as she laughs, “Oooohhhhh. Them. That’s another story. Yeah...it’s an interesting thing, actually. In my 2 ½ minutes of screen time on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ I’m HATED. I don’t get it. I’ve been called McBarwhore. McSlutty. And I’m like, Really? Really?!

She sighs, “It’s the Meredith-Derek obsession. And I’ve now become in everybody’s eyes a witch!”  “It’s been surprising, but I’m not crying in the corner.”

When I asked her if the McFlirting would continue, she said, “I can’t say. People are just going to have to watch…and stay faithful.”

So how long will Lexie be around? “I’m picked up for the season.”

And where the heck did she come from? “If you look back at prior seasons, they’ve alluded to two sisters. They hinted along the way; they already had that storyline brewing before I came along.”

“All I know is my character is a medical intern, it’s her first year, she’s meeting her half-sister for the first time, she’s going to be someone’s intern--all the interns are now residents, so now they have their own interns and I’m one of them.”

And guess who else is one of the interns? SPOILER ALERT! Working with Lexie for new residents Meredith, Cristina, Izzie and Alex is…George! Since George failed his test at the end of last season, he must do his internship over again—which should make for an interesting dynamic among the gang.

‘Grey’s’ is coming off of a backlash-heavy season [between the Isaiah Washington controversy, and let’s face it, some sagging storylines], so I asked Chyler if she and the cast were concerned that creator Shonda Rhimes decided to do a spin-off this year with Addison’s character, a project that will take up a lot of the boss’ time. She says, “Shonda’s got a lot on her plate, but she still has a heavy hand in this, she’s at all the table reads, and I know she’s at all the ‘Private Practice’ table reads, so she’s juggling them.”

Backlash be damned, ‘Grey’s’ did receive 10 Emmy nominations, including a Best Drama nod and three for Best Supporting Actress--Chandra Wilson, Katherine Heigl and Sandra Oh (nothing for Ellen Pompeo, that must be…awkward). T.R. Knight, Kate Burton (Meredith’s mother) and Elizabeth Reaser (Alex’s former memory-challenged patient) scored nominations as well.

I have to say, when we met little Lexie on-screen, it was a little too much. Hitting on McDreamy at the same bar he first met Meredith, joining the intern program at Seattle Grace and then finding out she was Meredith’s half-sister…well, my eyes nearly rolled out of my head. But after talking with the very sweet Chyler Leigh, I’ll be forcing myself to keep an open mind.

So what do you think? Will you give Lexie a chance? Is a Lexie-Derek hook-up "jump-the-shark" bait? Could it possibly be worse than last season’s absurd George-Izzie union? Do Meredith and Derek deserve to be together at this point?

body McBarWhore....McSlutty.. it runs in the family. Meredith is the original McMarWhore, McSlutty and any other name you want to call her. That was her thing... to pick up any guy and have sex with them. Derek would be one in a long line if she had not been working at the same place as him and she had to see him daily.
PUHLEEZE.............. it is time to move away from that "couple". SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

I am not sure I like the sister factor and I hope she is totally different than the whiny, selfish Meredith.

body I don't have an opinion about Meredith's new long-lost half sister, except that the resemblance is plausible. What I do have to say is that it won't matter to me anymore anyway because I am DONE with GRAY's/GREY's (however they spell it). The firing of Isaiah Washington just confirmed to me that there are only 3 kinds of people who enjoy free speech in America these days: Muslims, illegal aliens (at least for the moment, and gays. When a black man can be fired for exercising his CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, I am done!!!!!

body I lost my interest in Gray's anatomy when they played all the reruns last season. The Lexie-Derek pairing is sick-o and the George-Izzie pairing was rediculous.

body After the cliff hanger last season i am ready for some fresh blood. Actually, this should cause some interesting conflict since McDreamy became a moosh burger with broken-Meredith and maybe just maybe this "GREY" is not broken and Derek will be back to his old self we all knew and loved. Hmm, should be an interesting season.

First off, if you don't like how Chyler Leigh and her character Lexie Grey has been repsonded to by fans, blame GA writers, not Ellen Pompeo and her character Meredith. The writers set Lexie Grey up that way on purpose because the Mer/Der charaters are so well loved and the writers KNEW it would cause this sort of reaction. They want ratings and could care less how poor Chyler Leigh would be received when writing her into the show that way.

btw...How is Meredith a barwhore? Derek approached HER in the bar, hit on HER. How is it that his character gets out of this and the character Meredith is blamed? We are not really that dazed by McDreamy are we? If anyone is at fault in the Mer/Der relationship start up it's the "manbarwhore" Derek. You can't be that dazzled by his hair ladies can you?

Chyler Leigh is young and you can tell by the interview she just gave. It certainly will not endear her to GA fans to go after them for supporting the TWO LEADS of the show, Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo's character's, Meredith and Derek. Perhaps in time she will learn to show respect to the fans of GA if she wants their support.

Do not lable Ellen Pompeo or her character Meredith Grey. It's no better than the people who are taking shots at Chyler Leigh and her character Lexie because the writers set her up NOT to be liked so that the ratings would be huge when the show starts up again. If you want to blame anything, blame the crappy writing last season.

The fact that the fans are upset is that Lexie is Meredith's sister (half) and hooking up with the Derek character is sick. It's GROSS beyond belief and to many fans a deal breaker if Derek goes for the sister of the "love of his life" Hope the writers are not that cheesey but given the poor writing of season three, it would not surprise me.

Hoping that fans keep an open mind for Chyler and the Lexie character, but also hope that fans can be mature enough NOT to take shots at Ellen Pompeo and her character Meredith either. It's tacky people.

That's doubtful given how much fan support the Mer/Der tv couple has. Shonda Rhimes said she started the show with Derek and Meredith and will end it with them, so I guess we may have to get use to it. As long as the writers learn from what they did last season and write them the way they did in season one and two, I will be completely happy to see it go on.

and Derek with the "little sister" Lexie is gross no matter how you try to spin it. The writers have to be better than that one hopes.

body I hate her on principal and given the hints that Shonda has given, I am certain that I will hate her even more when the season begins.

I wish they would just leave Meredith and Derek alone. If they go that Derek/Lexie route, I'm done.

Besides, CL and PD are 16 years apart. Eeww.

body Firing Isaiah Washington was a BIG mistake! If a comment had been made on any other "group" or religion, he'd still be there! Get a clue! I think the George, Izzie thing is ridiculous. Izzie doesn't have the brains to back off when a married man tells her to do so. She sure falls in love a lot! The whole thing with Meredith's 1/2 sister just happening to flirt with Derek is a desperate cry for help! I am finished watching this show. I hope it flopps and gets taken off the air!!!
