gimpy wrote: Wait a minute, hold it. I just heard one of the GOVERMENT BRAINS said it may be unrealistic to expect the banks etc to pay back all of the money that we, the tax payers loaned to them. When I take out a loan or such, I have to pay it back plus service charges and interest. What gives with our goverment, why can't they put a lien on them some how to get it all back, ???? Maybe I misunderstood the remark by the BRAINS of goverment but its OUR money, not the goverments. What happened to the old saying, Goverment by The People, For The People
While I can agree with you regarding the banks who took taxpayers money and their responsibility for paying it back. The reason we are in the credit crisis we are in today is because millions of individuals in America did not pay back the loans they took out. They borrowed money for homes they could not afford and defaulted on credit card and auto loans. It is the 50% of the people in our country who were living beyond their means that caused the present economic crisis. If all the people who took out loans and charged items on their credit cards had just paid back what they borrowed. The banks would not have gone into crisis and would not have had to be bailed out in the first place. So when all is said and done. It was the PEOPLE of the country who failed to pay back the money they promised to pay back that are the ones responsible for the economic crisis we are in today.

Nope, sorry but I'm pretty sure gimpy got it right to begin with. As far as folks "over extending" themselves being to blame? I am truely sorry, but you are misled. I mean no insult. But you are wrong . It was all about greed, and those responsible for poor lending standards are in fact to blame. There was a time when you proved you took in income that had to surpass debt. And the lenders set all that aside, you had folks left and right moving into these financed homes and waiting on social services, unemployment and the like. But they were approved, you had people setting in those offices skimming customer files and targeting seniors living on fixed incomes, usually widows, and they were told how "good" it would be for them to refinance their only asset...their homes. Even right now the same banks that brought us last years wake up call? They are putting loans across the table to people that are in truth over priced. Only so those people can have a roof over their heads as they wait for their unemployment. The little bit of monies from the bailout that actually is loaned? The refinance rebates and such? You do understand that the people caught up in the me me me!, I need to be rich also home flipping craze are actually eating much of that money up. I mean you dont actually think a bank goes out and checks to see if those houses are vacant do you? If so you probably don't think millions of those 6 and 1200 dollar stimulus checks Bush sent out went to vacant houses either. The only thing that is good about it all? It tickles me everytime I read more about them increasing rates and fees. And why does that make me happy? Maybe...just maybe they will cut their own throats. No one can defend the government decision to let so many suffer at their expense. And that is where we are right now. When the next fail comes? This government has bet the house on the wrong pony, and there is nothing they can do to save them again, fact is? Our chances ( the nation as a whole ) of a recovery would have been much better had the government of let some of them fail. And this sitting president? He is not exceptional, he got it because he promised "change". And most americans mistook that for getting out of the bailouts that Bush had started. If he stays the course? Whole lotta folks gonna have to get used to tomato soup and crackers as a main stay. But for right now life is still good, most people don't think it's gonna reach them. Anyone know when we're going to start paying the national debt off with our gold reserves? hehe I know if I were China I wouldn't want paper. lmaoooooooooooo
