I definitely am. Earlier this year, my son's SSI was discontinued, and I am still trying to get them to reinstate it. Losing that took away a quarter of our family income. I had honestly expected it to be reinstated a few months ago, but still no word. I have always been pretty frugal out of necessity, but I had been able to ease up for a couple of years. Now, it's back to pinching pennies on everything. Once I get back in the swing of it, it's not bad; it becomes kind of like a game. And it sure makes me feel more in control of my life.
What I lack in youth, I make up for in cynicism.

Always have been, always will be, which is why I'm debt free. ElmerFusco: Interesting that you bring up this subject. I just read in the L.A. Times this morning that our "economic crisis" may be the cure for our frenzied consumer society, due to the fact that many Americans are tightening their belts. Statistics show that consumer spending accounts for more than two-thirds of our economy. However, much of what we purchase comes from other countries, but those countries don't buy nearly as much of our products in return. The article goes on to day that "it's in our culture to spend a lot! So, we've been pegged as big spenders. Now's the time to buckle-up the way our parents and grandparents did. More isn't better; learning to live with less IS.

ElmerFusco wrote: Amazed at how some people still throw so much money away on things they don't need. I'm looking at everything, it's a matter of not spending faster than we earn. Debt reduction is my priority for 2009. Thank God I don't have the burden of expensive addictive vices.
It has always amazed me how some people waste,,this is one time in my life that it pays me to be " poor" [money-wise anyway],,,,,, I dont have the burden of having a lot of money to lose, but I do feel for those who do have, and came by it honestly,,,I thank God that if I have to I can survive without it
