No, Reggie Bush is Reggie Bush. There is a laundry list of players that were absolute terrors in college, and high school. So the expectations were high in the Pros, but it just never materialized. Professional sports are faster, larger, and more seasoned. The tricks of the trade so to speak are in full glory. And some guys have been pampered for so long that they just can't get with the real program. There are several reasons why some of the so-called elite just wither into obscurity. Some of them are just functionally illiterate. They can't do what is required of them. There was always someone else to do those things for them. Some can't handle the new found fame. Hero worship at an all time high, everybody can't live up to the lofty expectations. To be cheered one week and booed the next takes some getting used to. Proper representation the ability to choose the right management team when they are too lame to be able to represent themselves. There was a time however brief, that college student athletes at least took a few courses in Business so if they did make it to the Pros they would understand how to negotiate for their money. After all their future depended on it. But the over-all performance aspect is only as good as the athlete can make of him or herself. And that is as personal as a fingerprint. There has never been a heart o meter to measure what any player brings to their sport of choice. That we have to witness from day to day, week to week, month to month and so on. There has never been a sure fire way to say who will actually make it in professional sports. We just have to wait and see, and marvel at the results.
