Can anyone give me ideas or suggestion for decorating the poles in my basement.  We are going with a woodsy, deer theme.  I've heard that people have covered them with old trees but not sure how its done.  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

box them up with some knotty pine panelling or some bamboo, maybe. I hate those poles in the basement, I'm always walking into them. There is a bar down there?

I thought that the traditional Festivus Pole was to be unadorned...

Thanks.... Yes, there is a bar down there.  After taking on a project like finishing a basement, we'll definitely need it!

Try hobby lobby. They sell this stuff that is used to decorate model train set ups. You can get bark and moss and leaves, all sorts of styff. You ay also be able to use some of that stuff that goes in the planter of a fake tree.
That or try some mohogney paint.

Good luck and post pics when its done

My wife asked me not to cover the post in the room that we created in the basement.  She wraps it with decorative gift wrapping paper to suit the season.  Looks neat and changes several times a year, always in sync with our parties.

If you have a "nautical or ocean theme" this will work. I just had a pool room but it's use was ten fold for my cats as well. I wrapped them in rope. The nasty rough kind that you see on cats overpriced poles in the store. I got it at a hardware store. I think it's called "thistle rope", but any rope will do. The indoors cats run up it, and use it as their "trees" :smileywink: In many, many years I have lived here, all the cats also use it for clawing and never use my furniture. :smileyhappy: Be warned though, when you start wrapping it, row after row...real close together...you will find it takes alot more rope than you think! :smileytongue:

An idea might be to cover it with a wooden column and paint a landscape mural on all 4 sides.   Have trees and deer, birds flying in the sky and perhaps a stream with a deer drinking kinda thing.

sounds like it will be a great room to spend time in.
