This of course will be everyone's personal opinions, but may spark some fun discussion.
Sometimes when I read a book, I think, "this would make a great movie." Then someone comes along and makes that movie. I get excited and go out to see it, and come home sorely disappointed.
You may have had the same experience. Any books you've read that were made into movies that you wish would be redone?
Years ago, I read some series by V. C. Andrews, called Flowers In The Attic. It wasn't high-brow literature, but it was addictive enough to keep me going for the whole series.
They made a movie version that I personally felt was horrible. I would love to see this, and the rest of the series, redone and continued.
"The aheader I go, the behinder I get!"

For some unknown reason, the extremely famous Catcher in the Rye has never been filmed for either the movies or television. It would be a hard book to film, but still, isn't that odd? I 'm not sure I have any intelligent offerings for this subject. With the definite exception of Stand By Me and possibly The Dead Zone and Cujo (it is what it is!), every film adapation of Stephen King's books need to be remade, though perhaps his style just doesn't translate to film. Despite my admiration for Stanley Kubrick, I've always thought that The Shining could have been better. No one will touch it again anytime soon, but someday it will happen, I think and hope. The movie has some good moments and somehow has slowly gained a life of its own after being initally hated by just about everyone, but it's not what the book was. Slighty off the subject is an older wonderful book by the late Philip Wylie called The Disappearance that also has never been filmed and I continue to be surprised by this. It would probably cost a fortune to film, but nonetheless, I remained surprised that this book that shows what the world would be like if women suddenly disappeared from the Earth and then just as suddenly tells a tale of what the world would be like if men were non-existent and women ruled the world. It's a fascinating, though a little dated, book. If you can find it, read it.

ABC did a TV version of The Shining about 10 years ago with Rebecca DeMornay & Steven Weber . . . I had just finished reading the book and that version of it was really good. I agree with you about the version with Nicholson. It just wasn't good. The Stand was a good mini-series though.

I would love to see Harry Potter and The Prisoner Of Azkaban remade. I like the books a lot better than the movies, but this one I was particularly disappointed in. I watched it once and only once. In general, I think that it's better when Stephen King's books are turned into mini-series. I think there's just alot more details that can be fit into 6 or 8 hours as opposed to just 2-2 1/2 hours. The Dark Tower would be cool as a television series. Also, The Last Unicorn. I would love to see an updated version of this. I think Christopher Lee was trying to get a live-action version going, and some of the same actors from the cartoon were reportedly willing to do it, but they never could get it off the ground.

Stephen King's Desperation - the TV movie just wasn't edgy enough - didn't really even begin to touch on everything that happened in the book.
