Why in the world did they choose Meryle Streep to play the lead female role in Mama Mia? For cryin' out loud, the guys, (Brosnan, Firth and Skarsgard) in this are better looking and younger than she is. This movie had the potential to be another Chicago or Moulin Rouge award winner. Instead we've got 'Grandma lipsinks ABBA' . I hope she chokes on her boa.

For someone who has not even seen the movie shouldn't be so judgemental. Streep was selected because she is one of the best actresses of our time, she can actually sing, & she portays Donna perfectly. I had my doubts about Streep as well, however after seeing how well she brings "Donna" alive, she is magnificent! It has a cast that is fab too! Amanda has a beautiful voice & Pierce is the kind of man that Sam should be. This movie will prove to be better in entertainment & financial gains to the geniuses who backed this project! Oh & by the way, check spelling before posting! It's "MAMMA MIA!"

Thanks for the spelling reminder, not that it made a difference, you knew what I a was referring to. It doesn't change the poor casting choice. The more I see the ad for this movie, the madder I get seeing this 60 yr old playing the role of 40 something, Donna.

I am so totally dissappointed in the casting of Meryl Streep as the female lead in the movie Mama Mia. Don't get me wrong, in the right story line like Kramer versus Kramer or French Lt. woman she's fine. But this is not a serious drama. It's a lighthearted frolic of fun and games, memories of romance from days gone by. The lead should have been like Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, a wonderful surprpise. Catherine Zea-Jones would have been fantastic. Even Stockard Channing could have put her wickedly hot Rizzo back together for this middle aged romp. What's the matter didn't they want to spend the money for someone with a pretty face and a body to boot? The male casting couldn't be better. Pierce Brosnan a forever hunk. Colin Firth, his voice alone can melt you like butter. And Skarsgard ain't bad either. All of whom I might add are younger than Streep. Firth is a good 11 years younger than she is. We are supposed to believe they may have had a baby 20 years earlier? That would make Streep a cradle robber!

Sorry your color choice and small words made it to difficult to read.
My furs are not in storage, or draped across the bed.
They're hanging on their cage door, waiting to be fed.

I HOPE SHE DOESN'T RUIN IT, I SAW THE BROADWAY SHOW THREE TIMES AND, OBVIOUSLY, LOVED IT. EVEN WITH STREEP, I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FLIM VERSION...HOPE IT AS GOOD AS THE STAGE VERSION!
