I exchanged my Motorola DVR for the umpteenth time the other day and, the lady said that Microsoft was working on the software problems they were having. I've had my box for over a year now and I'll believe it when I see it. When the thing is working right, it's wonderful, when it's not, I HATE it with a purple (o.k. I guess it;'s red) passion.

Omigosh Comcast DVR totally SUCKS!!!!!!!!! So sorry to say. I love Tivo, there is NOTHING like Tivo!!!!!

Comcast DVR frustrates me to no end.

Tivo does everything you ask it, and then some. With the Tivo features, it makes it really hard to compare the two.

Comcast's DVR acts kind of funky sometimes. Sometimes it hangs up when we are trying to program it. Another thing that pisses me off is, that when we have a show programmed to record. When the time comes, the DVR turns itself on and starts to record like it is supposed to. The problem is that when we turn on our TV, there is no sound. There is no sound when we switch to the other tuner either. There is sound on the recording however. We solved this problem by leaving our DVR on all of the time.

Another way to solve some glitches, though it may be a temporary fix until it funks up again, is to un-plug the DVR, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. This will cause the DVR to re-boot. You will not loose any recordings or programming for future recordings.

Message Edited by davlin on 03-23-200709:30 PM

Hi All,

Here's a very good "live" demo of the Comcast TiVo service on a Motorola DVR from CNet's CES 2007 show:

http://www.cnettv.com/9710-1_53-256...y=true#mgallery

Also, here's a more recent blog regarding Comcast and TiVo:

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-ent...orks-228822.php

Although it's a bit dated, here's a fairly in-depth article on ZDNet about Comcast and TiVo (mentions Cox too). I didn't see anything really new, but a good read.

http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040-6130862.html

For anyone that hasn't used TiVo, the difference between a Comcast Motorola HD DVR and TiVo is night and day...and you can never go back. (TiVo Series 2DT and Series 3 Hi-def both feature dual tuners.) TiVo suffers none of the problems plaguing Motorola DVR's, both hardware and software, and has so many more positives. Until Comcast addresses the Motorola hardware problems, adding TiVo software to the existing boxes will be a bit like putting lipstick on a pig. Let's hope for the best. Until then, we're sticking with TiVo.

Cheerz!
